Frequently asked questions
If your question isn't here, please ask. There are no silly questions about something this personal.
What is a family legacy film?
A family legacy film is a cinematic short film built from your family's photographs, home movies, documents and memories. Rather than a slideshow, it is shaped around a story: who your family are, where they came from, and what you want future generations to remember.
How much does a Then Again film cost?
Films are commissioned individually. Short Moving Memory projects start at $495 CAD, Family Story films at $1,495 CAD, our Signature Legacy Film at $2,995 CAD, and Bespoke Family Documentaries at $5,000 CAD. We will give you a clear proposal after our first conversation.
How long is the final film?
It depends on the story. Short projects run about 60 to 90 seconds; our Signature Legacy Film is typically 5 to 10 minutes; bespoke documentaries can be longer.
How many photographs do I need?
There is no minimum. Some beautiful films are built from a handful of photographs and a few good stories. We will help you decide what is enough.
What if my photographs are damaged?
Photographs do not need to be perfect. Faded, torn, creased and stained photographs can often be carefully restored while keeping their original character.
Can you use home videos?
Yes. Home movies and family videos can be included alongside photographs. [Supported formats and digitization details to be confirmed.]
Can you interview family members?
Yes, where appropriate. Recorded conversations with parents, grandparents or relatives can become the voice of the film.
Can you make a film about someone who has passed away?
Yes. Memorial and tribute films are made with particular care, and we will work at whatever pace feels right for your family.
Can you incorporate genealogy or historical research?
Yes. Family trees, records, and historical context can be woven into the film to place your family's story in its time and place.
Can you show where our family came from on maps?
Yes. Maps are one of the most effective ways to show journeys, migrations and the places that mattered.
How does photograph animation work?
For a small number of selected photographs, we use modern AI-assisted tools to add subtle, natural movement, such as a gentle turn of the head or a breeze through a scene. It is used sparingly and always reviewed by a person.
Will AI change what actually happened?
No. Our goal is never to rewrite the past or invent memories. We preserve the character of the original photographs, and every storytelling decision is made by people.
Are my photographs kept private?
[Privacy and storage policy placeholder. Describe how materials are stored, who can access them, how long they are kept, and whether any data is used by third-party tools.]
Do I need to organize everything before contacting you?
No. You do not need to organize anything before contacting us. We can help you decide what to include.
Can siblings contribute materials together?
Yes. Families often gather materials from several households. [Shared upload process placeholder.]
Can this be purchased as a gift?
Yes. Many films are commissioned as gifts for anniversaries, birthdays, reunions and holidays. [Gift certificate details placeholder.]
Do you work with families outside Toronto?
Yes. We are based in Toronto and create family films for families across Canada and worldwide.
How long does the process take?
[Typical timeline placeholder, e.g. 4 to 8 weeks depending on the archive.] If you have a specific date in mind, please tell us early.
What do I receive at the end?
You receive a high-resolution digital master of your film. [Optional physical heirloom delivery, such as a presentation box and archival USB, to be confirmed.]
Can the finished film be shown at an anniversary, memorial or family reunion?
Absolutely. Films are designed to be watched together, whether on a television at home or a screen at a gathering.

Every family has a story worth keeping.
